The UFC returns to Austin, Texas this Saturday night for the first time in four years, as UFC Fight Night 57 takes place.
Set for the Frank Erwin Center on the University of Texas campus, the main and prelim cards air on FOX Sports 1 following two bouts on Fight Pass. The main event should be a thriller, as former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar tries to ruin the title hopes of Cub Swanson.
Here’s three things to look for when you sit down this weekend to watch the card:
Is it really Cub Swanson’s time?
He’s won six in a row, but most are still not ready to crown Swanson the No. 1 contender to featherweight champion Jose Aldo. After a decision win vs. Jeremy Stephens, Swanson opted to fight Edgar instead of sitting on the sidelines, hoping for a title fight to open up.
This will be his biggest test since fighting Aldo back in 2009 while both were in the WEC. Edgar is a former champion, and has gone 25 minutes with Aldo and countless other greats.
Swanson says he has been promised the next crack at the Brazilian with a win, and he’ll have earned it if he can solve “The Answer.”
On the opposite side sits Edgar, who is coming off a third victory over BJ Penn. As mentioned, he got his chance at Aldo and was denied, but a victory vs. the red-shot Swanson would do wonders for his standing in the rapidly-growing division.
