UFC Fight Night 56 will be remembered as the evening Ovince St. Preux shocked a boisterous Brazilian crowd.
With one swift left-hook, St. Preux floored former champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. He capitalized, landing several uncontested shots on the ground to earn the stoppage in just 34 seconds.
OSP was the big star of the night, but there were others. Here’s a look at the three stars from the show:
Ovince St. Preux
It can’t really be understated just how big of a win this was for OSP. Coming off a decision loss to Ryan Bader in his first UFC main event, St. Preux stepped up on short notice to face a former champ.
Many believed he would try and take Rua down and lay on him for the majority of the 25-minute battle, but it was the complete opposite. After eating a few leg kicks, St. Preux landed his hook and pounced.
As the crowd immediately filed out, St. Preux celebrated his biggest win to date. A possible match with a Top-5 ranked light heavyweight should be next, though he called out two fighters rated below him after the win.
