Phil Harris vs. Neil Seery

Back to the flyweight division, as Phil Harris (22-12) takes on Dublin’s Neil Seery (13-10).

Round 1: Seery takes the center of the Octagon straightaway, as the announcers like to say. They lock up, as Harris is trying to use his judo and score a takedown. Seery breaks and even lands a knee to the body on his way out. Harris with an overhand right and goes back to trying for the takedown, but is denied once more. Seery plants Harris with a shot, dropping him to the canvas. Seery pounces, but doesn’t overexert himself and allows Harris to get to his feet. More shots from Seery connect. Seery has Harris hurt, trapping him. Harris, though, answers as they get in close and lands. Seery is swinging for the fences, trying to take the head of Harris clean off. Another flurry from Seery and Harris tries for a takedown, only to end up on his back.

Round 2: The doctor examined the eye of Harris, but he is cleared to return. Another failed takedown attempt and Seery is jumping up and down, waiting to attack. Harris is on the retreat, moving away as quickly as he can. He pulls guard, but Seery wants nothing to do with the ground game at this point. Harris finally gets a takedown, but Seery rolls and gets free. On the exit, Seery with a counter right that lands and he’s backing him up again, hammering away with powerful rights. Seery catches him in a corner and goes all-out. Harris denied once again as he tries to drop levels and score a takedown. Seery, meanwhile, is putting all 130 pounds or so he carries into every punch. Seery drops him again with a right.

Round 3: Harris doing a better job this round of countering when Seery comes in, landing good lefts and rights. It’s Seery, though, who is pushing the pace just like he was in the first. Harris comes in for a takedown and is pushed off with ease. Seery hurts him with a right hook, as Harris is wobbly. Jab from Seery, and another. Lefts land from Harris, as he comes in and connects with a combo. Seery’s right eye has some damage, as there is a cut and some swelling, likely courtesy the jab of Harris. Under a minute to go and Harris is denied once again on the takedown. Seery with a huge shot and he pounces, trying to the get finish.
