Andy Ogle vs. Maximo Blanco

Our first of two featherweight fights hits the Octagon next, as Andy Ogle meets Maximo Blanco.

Ogle (9-4) has dropped his last two, falling to Charles Oliveira and Cole Miller. Blanco (9-6-1) is also 0-2 in his last two fights and is just 1-4 in his last five overall.

Round 1: Blanco just came dead-sprinting across the cage and landed a kick to the face of Ogle. Blanco pounces and that was just an incredible move. Blanco takes his back and is landing good shots to the face. Ogle looked like he was completely out, but he gets to his feet. Blanco uses a hip toss to take him back down and is attacking. Big shots from Blanco, but Ogle gets up, uses a headlock to gain the advantage and drops for a takedown. Ogle’s face is a mess, but he’s recovered from the early attack and scores a takedown with three minutes to go. He takes the back, get the hooks in and is working for a rear-naked choke. He’s a little high on the back, but is working for the choke. Nice heel-kicks to the thighs from Ogle, but Blanco is able to reverse and move to the top. Potential armbar for Ogle results in a scramble and they get to the feet. Vicious body kick from Blanco and a nice right uppercut. Ogle catches him with a right and another and a third. He’s been the more effective striker in terms of accuracy, but Blanco’s shots have much more power to them.

Round 2: Blanco pretends to come running at Ogle again, but stops and delivers a switch-kick. Ogle recovers and is working for a takedown, but Blanco rolls for a knee-bar. Ogle trying to tie him up now on the canvas, and the Brit takes his back. He’s got both hooks in again and is stretching him out, searching for a rear-naked choke like in the first. At a stand-still for the moment, as Ogle can’t secure the choke and Blanco is tied up. Ogle finally gets a bit of an opening and tries to slide the arm under for the choke, but Blanco reverses and winds up on top with 30 seconds to go.

Round 3: Just a normal opening round this time, as Blanco doesn’t try anything crazy. Right jab from Ogle, who mixes up the strikes with a body shot and another right. Blanco retaliates, and another, keeping the range in his favor. Ogle switches from a takedown attempt to a nice straight left that lands to the face. Blanco with a good left-right combo and a right uppercut off a takedown attempt that fails. Blanco with a spinning back kick to the side of the head, and Ogle smiles it off, but it was effective. Ogle shoots for another takedown and is denied. Ogle seems to sense the shift in momentum, as he is attacking with more force now.
