A planned rematch between Ross Pearson and Melvin Guillard at UFC Fight Night 37 has been scratched due to an injury by Pearson.
Instead, Guillard will face Michael Johnson at the March 8 event from London’s O2 Arena. In the night’s main event, Alexander Gustafsson takes on Jimi Manuwa.
Guillard and Pearson fought in 2013, with the bout ending in a no-contest. Guillard (31-12-2) has gone 12-8 in 20 UFC appearances, including a knockout over Mac Danzig early last year.
“The Young Assassin” took to Twitter after news of the change was made official.
“Yea I know last night Ross not stupid everyday he looks in the mirror he remembers what happened last fight,” Guillard wrote. “He still got to fight (me) at some time the boss says so so rest if that’s what it really is lol.
“As for Johnson let’s get it. It’s more fun when you don’t like someone. So I’ll be the first to put it out there. I say what others are afraid.”
Johnson (14-8) volunteered to face Khabib Nurmagomedov after it was reported that nobody else would take on the unbeaten lightweight. The former Ultimate Fighter runner-up has rebounded with recent wins over Gleison Tibau and Joe Lauzon to improve to 6-4 inside the Octagon.
