UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman was a guest analyst on FOX Sports 1 for UFC 178 Saturday night. And he came away impressed with a fellow champion.
Demetrious Johnson dominated challenger Chris Cariaso in the main event, earning his fifth successful UFC flyweight title defense. Johnson scored a second round submission after locking up a kimura.
“He showing he can do anything out there,” Weidman said. “He’s so far ahead of everyone else in the division.”
While Weidman was pleased, “Mighty Mouse” felt like there are still areas he can continue to improve up. Johnson is the only fighter to hold the 125-pound title, having won it in a tournament finale over Joseph Benavidez.
Johnson has also defeated the likes of John Dodson, John Moraga, Ali Bagautinov and Benavidez again since winning the belt.
“We worked very hard for this fight,” said Johnson, on the FS1 post-fight show. “I was happy to display my ground skills. There’s still a lot more I need to work on. There are going to be more challenges down the road. I’ve got to stay focused to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.”
