When Ben Askren became a free agent while still holding the Bellator welterweight title, most felt he would sign a deal with the UFC.
However, Askren and UFC president Dana White had more verbal battles on Twitter than discussions inside the offices of the promotion, resulting in Askren eventually signing with ONE FC.
Askren recently won the ONE FC title and remains unbeaten. So, could the UFC come calling? White let it be known that might happen during his recent media scrum.
“I could care less about any of (the previous comments),” White said. “We’ll see how the kid fights and what he keeps doing and we’ll go from there.”
White added that he does hold grudges with people “until the day I drop dead,” but with fighters, “I don’t really do that.”
“These guys are built differently,” White said. “They’re tough and this is what they do for a living. If Tito (Ortiz) can come back, anybody can come in here.”
Despite White’s interest, Askren played coy regarding a possible move to the Octagon after news came out of the comments.
Oh thank you master @danawhite can I please have a shot
