UFC 211: Eddie Alvarez, Dustin Poirier Ends In No-Contest

Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier put on a show in the featured prelim Saturday night at UFC 211, but the end result left all watching sour.

After Poirier dominated the early stages, the former UFC lightweight champion started to fight back. In the third, though, Alvarez hit Poirier with what referee Herb Dean ruled as accidental illegal knees, ending the fight in a no-contest.

“I’m not a dirty fighter,” Alvarez said. “We’re fist-fighting. I’m doing the best I can.”

Alvarez was fighting for the first time since losing the title last year to Conor McGregor. He said a would be down for a rematch with Poirier.

Poirier defended Alvarez, who is also a former Bellator champion, after the bout.

“This guy is a warrior,” he said. “Don’t boo him.”
