Ovince Saint Preux wasn’t successful in his attempt to stun the world and become interim UFC light heavyweight champion Saturday night at UFC 197.
But the former Tennessee Volunteer showed he is a challenger in the decision moving forward, taking Jones the distance.
“I wanted to come out here (and win),” he said. “Jon is the pound-for-pound best fighter ever to get into mixed martial arts.
“I came in here, did what I did and am proud of myself.”
Saint Preux (19-8) has now gone 3-3 over his last six, losing to Jones, former title contender Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader. He’s defeated Rafael Cavalcante, Patrick Cummins via knockout and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua the same way back in 2014.
“I had three weeks (to prepare),” he said. “I did a pretty good job. He kept a fast pace. I blocked a high kick and injured my left arm.”
