When the likes of Johny Hendricks, Matt Brown, Alistair Overeem and Roy Nelson are not included in the main and co-main events for a card, you gotta believe you are in for a treat.
That’s the case this Saturday night, as UFC 185 takes place with two titles on the line.
Anthony Pettis defends his lightweight belt against Rafael dos Anjos in the headline act, while Carla Esparza puts her female strawweight title up for grabs vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Here’s a look at three fights that you cannot miss once the action starts inside the Octagon:
Anthony Pettis vs. Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight title
Simply put, “Showtime” is just that.
Pettis has had a rough go since joining the UFC as WEC champion due to injuries, but when he’s healthy – and scheduled to fight – he delivers.
His submission win over Benson Henderson came out of nowhere, and he recently became the first person to put Gilbert Melendez away when he locked up a guillotine last December.
Since a 2011 loss via decision to Clay Guida, Pettis has topped Jeremy Stephens and finished both Joe Lauzon and Donald Cerrone in the first round to go along with his submission victories over Henderson and Melendez.
Dos Anjos, meanwhile, has Nate Diaz, Henderson, Jason High, Cerrone and Evan Dunham among his resume as of late, losing only via decision to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
And while this should have been Nurmagomedov’s shot at the belt, you can’t fault “RDA” for stepping in and trying to pull a T.J. Dillashaw and stun the world.
