UFC 179 Results: Yan Cabral Excites Brazilian Crowd

It was simple and bland, but Yan Cabral earned a submission win in front of his Brazilian fans Saturday night at UFC 179.

Cabral, who made his debut at lightweight vs. Naoyuki Kotani, improved to 2-1 inside the Octagon after his run on The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2 was ended early due to an injury.

“I won the fight, so it was good for me,” Cabral said. “I had a good time cutting weight, so I am here to stay (at lightweight).”

Cabral (12-1) picked Kotani apart in the second round, scoring with a pair of takedowns. After failing to get the choke on his first takedown, the Brazilian easily locked in both hooks and got the job done the second time around.

“My strong point is jiu-jitsu,” he said. “Anytime I come in the cage, I come in to submit.”

After leaving TUF, Cabral defeated David Mitchell via decision. He suffered his first career loss at the hands of Zak Cummings earlier this year, also via decision.

Kotani fell to 33-12-7 and 0-2 with the UFC.
