Brian Stann had the line of the night at UFC 179 Saturday evening, and it came early in the show.
After Wilson Reis landed a body kick that appeared to knock the wind out of Scott Jorgensen, Stann declared the move a “soul kick” because of what it did to Jorgensen. Reis quickly pounced, locking up a submission for his 19th career win.
“I knew he was hurt and I just went in with the punches,” Reis said. “I have a short memory after that…just remembering I got the choke.”
Since joining the UFC, Reis (19-5) has gone 3-1, including back-to-back wins in the flyweight division. He is 7-1 in his last eight overall, including four wins via submission.
“I felt (Jorgensen) had a weakness against southpaws,” Reis said. “I made some mistakes early in the fight, but when I heard the snap (from the kick), I knew he was hurt.”
Jorgensen falls to 15-10 in his career after missing weight due to issues with his travel to Brazil. Mike Goldberg stated he suffered a broken rib after the fight.
