Fabio Maldonado had one of his biggest moments ever Saturday night at UFC 179, stopping Hans Stringer and being greeted by one of the greatest of all-time.

After his second round stoppage victory, Maldonado was met atop the Octagon fence by Anderson Silva. “The Spider” and Maldonado are both members of Team Nogueira out of Brazil, site of Saturday’s card.

“It was great to see Anderson,” Maldonado said. “I am never leaving this Octagon again. I am never getting tapped out or knocked out.”

Earlier this year, Maldonado (22-7) fought on short notice and met Stipe Miocic at heavyweight. He was quickly finished, but rebounded to earn his fourth straight win at 205 pounds.

“I thought I didn’t fight well in Brazil (last time),” he said. “I am an emotional guy. I want to hang out and drink beer with everybody here.”

Maldonado weathered Stringer’s early storm of takedowns, spending the majority of the first round on his back. In the second, he put Stringer on the canvas and finished him there, hammering away with shots to the body and head.

Stringer falls to 22-6-3 in his MMA career and 1-1 with the UFC.
