UFC 179: Jose Aldo Not Concerned With Hype Surrounding Conor McGregor

As UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo prepares for a title rematch with Chad Mendes this Saturday night at UFC 179, he’s forced to think about what might be next thanks to some carefully placed words by Dana White.

The UFC president made it known that, with a win by Aldo, the Brazilian could likely be paired up with Conor McGregor next. For now, though, “Scarface” is focused in on only Mendes.

“I’m not looking at anyone else at the moment,” he told during a recent interview. “I’m focused on my next fight, which is against Chad Mendes. If people are hyping Conor, I haven’t read about it. After my next fight, I’ll have time to see what the hype’s all about.”

Aldo (24-1) owns a perfect 6-0 record inside the Octagon, including a previous win over Mendes (16-1). McGregor (16-2) has scored wins in all four of his appearances with the UFC, which includes three finishes.

While Aldo made it clear he is thinking about Mendes with the fight fast-approaching, he did point out that he observes “all fighters in the featherweight category” because they could be “my next adversary.” The Irish-born McGregor, though, doesn’t impress Aldo.

“I don’t see anything that stands out,” he said.
