Tim Kennedy looked up the rule book following his loss to Yoel Romero Saturday night at UFC 178. And he found exactly what he was looking for.
Between the second and third rounds, Romero was allowed to stay on his stool for 29 seconds – according to Joe Rogan. Kennedy almost finished the middleweight at the end of the second, but Romero came out like gangbusters and ended his night shortly after.
Kennedy went to the Nevada Athletic Commission rules, finding 467.728 to express his feelings:
NAC 467.728 If a combatant fails or refuses to resume competing when the bell sounds…the referee shall award a decision of TKO
— Tim Kennedy (@TimKennedyMMA) September 28, 2014
It remains to be seen if anything will happen regarding the decision by the referee to allow the fight to continue. Romero tried to apologize to the fans after the fight.

Update: Heidi Fang, on scene in Las Vegas, posted on Twitter that she “spoke to an official regarding Romero-Kennedy who says Kennedy has a legitimate case to protest the Romero W & get it overturned.”
