Eddie Alvarez and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone clashed on the UFC 178: Johnson vs Cariaso pay-per-view in what was a highly anticipated throwdown between two of the most well-known 155 pounders on the planet.
And it was exactly the barnburner we all wanted it to be.
Cerrone came out with a methodical approach, while Alvarez was looking to set up his power punches with his jabs. Alvarez caught Cerrone clean with a right punch in close before storming him with a series of uppercuts in the clinch, but Cerrone stayed tough and made it a battle of attrition.
Alvarez came out in the second round knowing that he could land the shots he needs to win this fight, as did Cerrone. It was midway through the second round when Cerrone’s muay thai began to set it and he landed at will. The leg kicks started to take affect to Alvarez’s movement and took away what made him so successful in round one.
The third was a bit more of a contest, as Alvarez landed a nice punch and stayed on Cerrone. But Cerrone went right back to his kicking arsenal and caught Alvarez cleanly in the third to go on to win the fight convincingly.
Final Result: Donald Cerrone defeats Eddie Alvarez by Unanimous Decision
