Dominick Cruz returned from a three-year layoff in convincing fashion, finishing Takeya Mizugaki Saturday night at UFC 178.
For his effort, Cruz will get the chance to win back the UFC bantamweight title that was taken away from him, as UFC president Dana White announced him as the next challenger to T.J. Dillashaw at the post-fight press conference.
Earlier this year, Cruz was stripped of the belt after suffering an injury. He missed two years previously recovering from knee surgeries, and the promotion decided to make Renan Barao the unified champion.
Dillashaw defeated Barao to win the title, and successfully defended it vs. Joe Soto, as well.
No date was announced for Cruz-Dillashaw. Previously, Cruz has bested Dillashaw’s Team Alpha Male teammate, Urijah Faber.
