Despite the weird circumstances surrounding the bout, Tim Kennedy and Yoel Romero still were awarded the “Fight of the Night” for UFC 178 Saturday evening.
Romero earned a third round stoppage victory over Kennedy, however the decision was being contested by Kennedy after Romero stayed on the stool after the minute ended between the second and third rounds.
Conor McGregor and Dominick Cruz each were given “Performance of the Night” awarded. McGregor stopped Dustin Poirier in the first round, while Cruz returned from a near three-year layoff to finish Takeya Mizugaki inside the first round, as well.
Kennedy, Romero, McGregor and Cruz all earned an additional $50,000.
The attendance inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was announced at 10,544 for a live gate of $2.2 million.
