Conor McGregor isn’t taking Dustin Poirier lightly heading into their main card fight Saturday night at UFC 178.
He just doesn’t believe Poirier can match up to him inside the Octagon.
“I’m going to go in there and play off his panic,” said McGregor, during a recent interview on UFC Tonight. “I’m going to play with it. He chokes in big contests. He will choke.”
McGregor hasn’t come close to falling since joining the UFC, defeating Marcus Brimage and Diego Brandao via TKO, and Max Holloway by decision. He’s quickly climbed the featherweight rankings, something that has not gone unnoticed by “Notorious.”
“I’m already validated in my own mind and my team’s mind. It doesn’t matter what other people think,” he said. “I will put him away and I’ll get a title shot. I’ll go out and stiffen him up in the first round and will get the title shot.”
We’ll be providing complete UFC 178 results coverage Saturday night, including live play-by-play of all the action. The event kicks off at 7 p.m. ET with two UFC Fight Pass bouts before moving over to FOX Sports 1. The pay-per-view main card starts at 10 p.m. ET and features flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson defending his title against Chris Cariaso.
