UFC 177 Recap: Perfect Homecoming For T.J. Dillashaw

T.J. Dillashaw saved the show and stepped up Saturday night, scoring a fifth-round victory over Joe Soto to remain the UFC bantamweight champion at UFC 177.

Dillashaw scored his second straight finish in the final round, adding to his win over Renan Barao earlier this year to become champion.

Barao was expected to challenge Dillashaw, but a mishap while cutting weight knocked the former titleholder out of the contest. Soto, an ex-Bellator champion, stepped in on 24 hours notice to challenge for the belt.

In other action, Tony Ferguson earned a victory over Danny Castillo, Bethe Correia stopped Shayna Baszler to remain unbeaten against fighters from the Ronda Rousey-led “Four Horsewomen” posse and Carlos Diego Ferreira defeated Ramsey Nijem.
