Veteran Trevor Smith will replace Bruno Santos and face off with Chris Camozzi at UFC 175 in July. Officials announced the change on Twitter Thursday night.
Set for July 5 from Las Vegas, the card will be part of International Fight Week. In the main event, Chris Weidman defends his middleweight title against Lyoto Machida, while Ronda Rousey and Alexis Davis battle for the female bantamweight belt in the co-main event.
Other announced bouts include Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva and Urijah Faber vs. Alex Caceres.
Smith (11-5), who has fought everywhere from middleweight to heavyweight since leaving Iowa State University in 2004, is coming off a knockout loss to Thales Leites in April. Prior to that, he scored a split decision vs. Brian Houston to snap a two-fight losing streak.
After starting his career 9-1, Smith lost to Gian Villante in Strikeforce, earned a regional win, returned to Strikeforce and was submitted by Tim Kennedy. He dropped his UFC debut in 2013 to Ed Herman by split decision.
Camozzi (19-7) is in a must-win situation after back-to-back losses to Lorenz Larkin and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza last year. He had put together four straight wins, including finishes vs. Dustin Jacoby and Nick Catone.
