Elizabeth Phillips vs. Valerie Letourneau

Our one and only female scrap features UFC newcomers Elizabeth Phillips (4-1) and Valerie Letourneau (5-3).

Phillips comes to the UFC from nearby Spokane, Washington where she trains with former TUF winner Julianna Pena. Letourneau has finished all five of her wins, with two losses coming in 2007 to UFC fighters Alexis Davis and Sarah Kaufman.

Round 1: Phillips immediately goes for the clinch, but Letourneau lands a knee to the body and loses the clinch. Exchange of high kicks and both are blocked. These two are staying within the reach of each other and exchanging, and Phillips appears to have been hurt as she is wincing her eyes. Letourneau’s left eye swelling, likely from an accidental eye poke. She comes back and catches Phillips with a combo. More swelling from just below the eye, as she might have something broke. Phillips sees this and is going after the opening, now opening a cut under the right eye too. Another good exchange, and that left eye is almost completely swollen shut.

Round 2: Letourneau’s left eye is continuing to look worse and worse, and Phillips is coming after it. Phillips forces her against the fence, but it’s Letourneau who lands a nice knee to the face inside the clinch. Smartly, Phillips is using her head against the face of Letourneau, further doing damage to the injured area. Just a ridiculous flurry, as both exchange and throw. Letourneau has busted open the nose area with a handful of uppercuts.

Round 3: Both ladies look winded, but that hasn’t stopped them from attacking. They both took the fight on short notice. Couple of good knees to the body by Letourneau, who is being held against the cage. Nice short elbow by the Canadian. Each time Phillips comes in with the right, Letourneau fires off an uppercut that is just missing.
