Andrei Arlovski vs. Brendan Schaub

Our lone heavyweight encounter of the night will see the return of former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski, as he faces Brendan Schaub.

Arlovski (21-10) has won two straight and four of his last five to earn a return to the promotion. Since a string of losses, he has posted a 6-1 record with one no-contest.

Schaub (10-3) is on a two-fight win streak of his own, but has suffered three knockout losses in his career to Ben Rothwell, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Roy Nelson.

Round 1: Arlovski quickly clinches and unloads a series of left hands. Not much damage and they separate. Schaub fires off with a combo and has Arlovski backing up for a brief moment. Back to the clinch against the fence for Arlovski, who is taking some deep breathes. Schaub seems annoyed by the clinch game, pushing Arlovski away. Schaub throwing a huge overhand right, but misses. Schaub defends a takedown attempt after Arlovski delivers a Jon Jones-kick to the kneecap.

Round 2: Right off the bat Schaub catches a low blow and we have a break. After some strict instructions from referee John McCarthy, we are back live. Schaub catches a shot and he has a cut on his left eye. Arlovski to the body and follows up with a straight left. To the clinch again, and Arlovski doesn’t do any damage. Schaub just misses on an overhand right, but is unable to counter. Schaub fakes low and lands, but also eats a jab to the body. This time, it’s Schaub with the clinch as we approach the two-minute mark and the crowd gets restless at the lack of action. Schaub gets a takedown, but is out of control and can’t capitalize. Schaub lands an uppercut to end the round.

Round 3: Schaub comes in wildly and misses on a pair of shots, but does connect with a quick left. Arlovski catches him with a left on the way in and there was an accidental headbutt noticed by the ref that stops the action. They engage and clinch, with Arlovski showing his power and winning the battle. However, it’s Schaub with the takedown and into guard with three minutes to go. Schaub doing little damage, but enough to stay in the position. He lands a hammer-fist as we go under a minute and they stand up. Schaub with the clinch against the fence, but Arlovski reverses it. Schaub’s face is a bloody mess.
