Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira for the UFC light heavyweight championship

We’ve arrived at the main event, as UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defends his belt against Glover Teixeira.

Jones (19-1) has won 10 straight and has successfully defended the title a division-record six times, including wins over Alexander Gustafsson, Vitor Belfort, Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida.

Teixeira (22-2) is on a 20-fight unbeaten streak that includes UFC wins over Ryan Bader, James Te Huna, Jackson, Fabio Maldonado and Kyle Kingsbury.

Round 1: Wow. That was an entrance you will just have to see to believe, complete with the Ray Lewis dance. Switch kick to the body by Jones and Teixeira fires off a right. Bug uppercut just misses from the Brazilian, who defends a takedown attempt. Left from Jones and Teixeira lands a big right. Teixeira catches a kick and they tie up, with Jones attempting to grab the arm and lock in a submission. Big shots from Teixeira connect and Jones switches stances. The crowd is very loud, very into this fight. Switch kick from Jones connects halfway through the round. Teixeira misses with lefts and rights, and Jones lands a hook. Inside leg kicks now from Jones. You’ll remember those devastated Quinton Jackson. Jones with a takedown, but Teixeira quickly to his feet. Spinning back kick to the body lands by Jones with a thud, and Teixeira comes flying in, swinging wildly.

Round 2: Teixeira looking to just throw huge bombs, and Jones is easily moving out of the way. Straight kick from the champ lands, as does another. Jones misses with a big left hook, allowing Teixeira to get in close, but he can’t do any damage. Another kick from Jones lands. Nasty kicks to the knee and he lands an elbow. Teixeira seems rattled and is backing up, catching another finger to the eye. Jones warned the ref might take a point away if he happens again. Teixeira seems to have recovered, landing a nice body shot. He backs Jones up and catches him against the fence, closing the distance. Another big kick by Jones, but it gets partially blocked. Teixeira to the body. Elbows from Jones, and another, vs. Teixeira against the fence. Big left hook by the champ as we go under a minute. Spinning elbow and he catches Teixeira against the fence, unloading again with the elbow.

Round 3: Jones with a knee to the body, as both fighters are asking for ice between rounds for ligaments. Jones denied on the initial takedown attempt, which he has done three times now to Jones. Pair of big uppercuts by Teixeira and Jones answers with elbows. Teixeira with another and Jones flees to the center. Teixeira bleeding from the nose, likely a result of the elbows. Stiff right and another elbow by the champ, as Teixeira answers. Two more elbows, and a third as Teixeira’s nose is a bloody mess. Blood getting smeared all over now as they work inside the clinch, and Jones lands a left hook. Front kick from Jones followed by a front leg side kick. Jones peppering him inside the clinch against the fence, landing elbows and anything else he wants.

Round 4: Huge cut over the eyebrow of Teixeira, and Rogan says if it gets opened up again, this might be over. Uppercut from Teixeira, as Jones just continues to get in close, tying up the wrists and fighting like Teixeira wants to. However, he’s winning the fight this way. Big knee to the body and another elbow has the challenger busted wide open. Inside leg kicks after a jab from the champ, and another elbow forces more blood from the face. He’s going back to taking that lead leg out, coming down hard on it. Big uppercut from Jones, and another, as he is just taking Teixeira’s best shots. Up against the fence, and Jones is imposing his will again with more elbows. Now he throws a right elbow that lands. Left, right elbows, another right, and Teixeira is in big time trouble. Teixeira is backing up, something you don’t see.

Round 5: Maybe a little insult to injury, as Jones offered to help Teixeira up after the fourth round. Like he did to finish the fourth, Jones takes Teixeira down. Tying him up now against the fence and Teixeira is busted wide open. Just a flawless performance from the champion so far. Teixeira comes alive, firing off uppercuts and backing Jones up. Now, he comes back, firing away at him and knocking Teixeira’s mouth piece out for a second time. Right and a left from the challenger, as Jones is just standing there, telling him to hit him. We’ve got two minutes left and Jones tees off with a huge left. Teixeira answers with an uppercut and Jones clinches. One more sharp elbow by Jones and Teixeira spins off the cage, firing away with rights and lefts. His leg is giving out on him and he is exhausted, breathing heavily. Jones playing with him as we go under a minute, teasing Teixeira.
