Jessamyn Duke vs. Bethe Correia

A member of the “Four Horsewomen,” Jessamyn Duke, takes on Bethe Correia in a female bantamweight bout next.

Duke (3-0) was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter 18, falling to Raquel Pennington in a bout that was named “Fight of the Season.” She made her official Octagon debut with a decision over Peggy Morgan last November.

Correia (7-0) defeated Julie Kedzie in December, remaining unbeaten in her career.

Round 1: Just an incredible reach advantage for Duke of nine inches. She’s just peppering her with jabs, waiting for the right opportunity to strike. Correia gets a nice right through the defense. Duke gets the clinch and lands several knees to the body, but Correia gets free. Good leg kick is checked by Correia. Spinning back elbow from Correia works on a counter shot. Duke’s unable to keep the clinch tight this time and eats a right for her effort. Correia bullies her against the fence, but gets tripped down. Duke’s corner instructing her and you can actually see her nod in approval of what they had to say. She’s got a terrifying grin on her face while competing. Just terrifying.

Round 2: Nice little exchange to start, as Correia is pushing the tempo. Kick from Duke busts open her nose, but she gets inside and lands a nice comb. Duke bullies her against the fence, gets reverses, but lands a pair of knees. Another trip takedown from Duke and she tries for a triangle choke but gets trapped on the bottom for her efforts. With her length, Duke is hard to keep in side control. Another trip takedown, but Correia quickly to her feet and lands an elbow. Nice overhand right gets through for the Brazilian, and another right. Series of leg kicks from Correia and Duke answers with a knee to the body.

Round 3: Correia continuing to get the better of her in the striking despite the significant reach disadvantage. Tons of bruising and swelling on the lead leg of Duke, and she still isn’t answering the kicks by checking or retaliating. Completely dominant performance from Correia, as Duke looks off-balance and has no timing down. About six unanswered shots to the body by Correia and Duke takes her down with another trip. She has the arm, but Correia slips free and is on top with 90 seconds to go. Duke is working for the submission as we head under a minute to go, as she has an a leg almost in triangle choke position.
