The landscape of the UFC’s welterweight division shifted Saturday night, as Johny Hendricks became the newest champion with a decision victory over Robbie Lawler.
After coming up short vs. Georges St-Pierre last year, “Bigg Rigg” heard his name announced as the “new UFC welterweight champion” by Bruce Buffer and broke down. He picked up the win on all three scorecards.
In the co-main event, Tyron Woodley staked his claim to a future title shot, defeating Carlos Condit. Woodley landed a big takedown and Condit winced when he hit the canvas.
When the two stood back up, Woodley kicked out the lead leg of Condit and the former interim champion went down. He had to be helped back to the locker room.
In the other key welterweight scrap, Hector Lombard downed Jake Shields. The other main card bouts featured wins by Myles Jury and Ovince St. Preux.
