UFC 168: Ronda Rousey Vs. Miesha Tate

Our first of two championship rematches will feature Ronda Rousey (7-0) putting her UFC female bantamweight title on the line against Miesha Tate (13-4) in the co-main event.

Back in 2012, Rousey successfully submitted Tate in the first round via armbar with just 33 seconds left in the first round. The two were coaches on the most recent season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Round 1: No touch of gloves, just crazy swinging right away. Rousey clinches, grabs her and gets a takedown, but Tate quickly gets to her feet and up against the cage. Rousey with a nice knee to the body, showing more striking than usual at this point in the match. Tate fires back with a knee to the stomach and another. Rousey with a front kick and gets Tate back to the ground. Tate goes for a triangle and Rousey picks her up, but is unable to slam her. Tate with a takedown and on top, avoiding the armbar for now. Rousey working for it now, posturing herself up. Rousey has a modified triangle locked in, but is still looking to lock in the armbar. Rousey has busted open Tate’s face, but she gets free and they are swinging again. All-out attack by both fighters and Tate is hurting Rousey with strikes. Rousey answers with a judo takedown and is on top with 90 seconds left in the round. Rousey takes the back and Tate sweeps to the top. Back to the feet and Tate gets thrown to her back again, getting too aggressive and trying to charge in. Tate with a nice right and blocks the takedown this time as the final seconds tick away.

Round 2: Here we go with the first time Rousey has ever been taken into the second round. Tate comes out smiling and attacking, and Rousey knocks her to the canvas. Upkick just misses by Tate, but the second and third ones don’t and Rousey wants no more of that. Another judo throw by Rousey with ease off a takedown attempt by Tate. Rousey appears to want to test her striking, letting Tate get back up. Another takedown by Rousey and she moves to the back, working herself to side control while Tate scrambles. Rousey getting the better of her against the fence, while Tate fires back with a pair of knees to the body. One more judo throw and Tate is on her back again. Tate flips her legs up and brings Rousey back, almost locking her arm in. She’s unable to get it and Rousey has the left arm, switching to mount as we go under two minutes. Rousey has her trapped, landing several big shots before switching to the armbar again. She has it but Tate gets out of it once again. Rousey goes back to punching her face and still has a potential armbar lock. Rousey with a reverse triangle as we go under 50 seconds. Tate is attempting to break the choke from around her neck. She does it again, surviving the armbar and the round.

Round 3: Tate trying her best to survive the armbar again, but she can’t do it this time. Rousey scores with it and gets the submission, her eighth in her career via the move. Tate attempts to shake hands after, but Rousey blows her off.
