Dustin Poirier vs. Diego Brandao

We open up the pay-per-view main card with featherweights Dustin Poirier (14-3) and Diego Brandao (18-8) in action.

Poirier scored a decision over fellow Top-10 fighter Erik Koch this past August, improving to 2-2 in his last four. Brandao has won three straight since a 2012 loss to Darren Elkins and is 7-1 in his previous eight.

Round 1: Reports have Brandao coming in after a car accident, which caused him to miss weight badly. Poirier was very upset and let him know about it during weigh-ins. Brandao did get down to 151 after first hitting the scales even bigger. Brandao drops him and lands a kick to the face just as Poirier was standing. Nothing hurt, though, and we continue on. Nasty leg kick by Brandao after Poirier connects with a right hook. Poirier hits a right and Brandao answers with a straight kick to the body. Great fight so far through two minutes, as many feel this could be “Fight of the Night.” Brandao drops him again with a shot, but Poirier quickly gets to his feet. Brandao with a takedown and Poirier gets to his feet immediately and catches him against the fence. Poirier is pouring it on, dropping Brandao and a second time. Nasty shots by Poirier and Brandao is hurting as he hammers down from the top. Brandao looks out and the ref steps in with just seconds left.
