Roy Nelson and his beard have been saved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Daniel Cormier requested it be trimmed for their UFC 166 fight, but the option simply was not available.
Cormier had complained how the beard’s length was messing with his timing of shots. He considers it a comfort zone for Nelson.
“Big Country” returns to the UFC with a new contract and off a decision loss. Cormier is fighting in what could be his final heavyweight outing as he’s working on a move to light heavyweight.
UFC president Dana White also wanted Nelson to shave the beard.
The heavyweights are the co-main event of UFC 166. It’s from Texas’ Toyota Center on Saturday, October 19.
