UFC 165: Chris Clements Vs. Stephen Thompson

Chris Clements vs. Stephen Thompson

The lone welterweight contest on the schedule for this evening takes place next, as Chris Clements (11-4) puts his six-fight unbeaten streak on the line against Stephen Thompson (7-1), who is coming off a win over Nah-Shon Burrell earlier this year. John McCarthy is the third man inside the Octagon.

Round 1: Thompson is the heavy favorite, as he went the distance with streaking Matt Brown recently. Clements firing back with some nice leg kicks in response to Thompson’s, who is unbeaten as a kickboxer at 57-0. Just a simple head-kick looks devastating by Thompson, who throws them at will. Thompson fires off a head kick and Clements sweeps him with a low kick. Perfectly executed by Clements, who gets taken down by Thompson in response with a single-leg. Right-hand by Thompson off a counter, and Clements fires back with a left of his own. Thompson winds up in the guard and is looking to punish, as Thompson attempts a D’arce choke but Clements is able to get to his feet. Mirroring side-kick stances, and Thompson scores with another takedown.

FightLine scores the round 10-9 for Thompson

Round 2: Thompson catches Clements early, pouncing and landing some nice ground-and-pound. Clements shows his toughness, though, as he appears to have recovered from the first-minute onslaught. Clements gets to his feet after Thompson attempts to mount and slips. Clements, now feeling the pressure of the knockdown pushes forward and walks right into another shot by Thompson, who causes him to stop in his tracks with a left that floors him. Just incredible combinations and moves by Thompson.
