Tyrone Spong is one of those select athletes who can transition between sports. He’s mostly known for his kickboxing days and now MMA for the World Series of Fighting.
GLORY is one of the largest kickboxing promotions out there and has been touring the United States the last few months. With Spike TV by their side, Spong thinks a new audience will form.
“If you want to grow up to be something big, you’ve got to start eventually — and this is the best start I can imagine,” said Spong to MMA Fighting. “[Spike TV] is mainstream media. So I think it can get really big here in the States.”
Spong takes on Nathan Corbett at today’s GLORY 11. It’s a rematch from their 2009 encounter that ended in a no contest.
GLORY 11 comes from the Sears Centre Arena in Illinois. Spike TV will be there as the cameras start airing live at 9 p.m. ET.
