UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley’s first title defense will come opposite Stephen Thompson.
Working the FOX Sports 1 weigh-in show for UFC Fight Night 94 Friday, Woodley confirmed that he will defend his belt opposite Thompson at UFC 205 this November.
Woodley (16-3) won the title with a first round knockout of Robbie Lawler earlier this year, improving to 6-2 inside the Octagon. Thompson (13-1) has won seven in a row, including wins over Rory MacDonald and former champion Johny Hendricks.
UFC 205 marks the UFC’s first major show in New York since they passed a bill legalizing MMA. The card takes place inside Madison Square Garden.
Woodley was pushing for Georges St-Pierre or Nick Diaz for his first title defense, leaving “Wonderboy” to sit and watch when he made those comments during a live post-fight show on FS1 after his win over Lawler.
