Dustin Ortiz vs. Justin Scoggins

We open up the main card with flyweights Dustin Ortiz and Justin Scoggins.

Ortiz (13-3) is 2-1 since joining the UFC and 5-1 overall, with the lone loss being via split decision to John Moraga. Scoggins (9-0) has won both of his Octagon bouts, defeating Will Campuzano and Richie Vaculik.

Round 1: Ortiz scores with a takedown just seconds into the action. Scoggins using the butterfly guard to try and set up an armbar. He gets the angle against the fence, as Ortiz is working to break the hold. Ortiz trying to stack Scoggins up, but he flips to belly-down and has the arm right in front of Joe Silva and Sean Shelby who appear to not be able to watch the hold. Ortiz, though, slips free and gets out. No idea how he saved his arm from being snapped. Ortiz locks up the waist and scores with a takedown, transitioning to the back in the process. Scoggins to his feet without suffering any damage. He uses a duck-under and locks up a near-choke, but Ortiz flips and gets free. Scoggins takes the back as the round comes to a close.

Round 2: Ortiz gained some added confidence at the end of the first and it’s showing, as he lands a nice left. Ortiz shoots for a takedown, but Scoggins counters and has him locked up at the moment. More slick wrestling on the ground from both fighters, as Ortiz transitions and gets to the guard of Scoggins. Ortiz very active from the top, landing elbows and big shots.

Round 3: Scoggins comes out striking, landing a good 1-2 combo and heeding the advice of his corner and not going for the takedown. Dirty boxing by Ortiz scores and Scoggins comes flying in with a right. Ortiz has quadrupled Scoggins in total strikes landed at this point. Ortiz comes in with a left that connects and avoids the counter in the process. As Ortiz hits again with the left, Scoggins drops down and scores with a takedown. All Scoggins, as he is controlling Ortiz with wrestling as we head under two minutes to go. Ortiz with a switch that allows him to get to his feet, in on a single-leg, but is denied. Scoggins reverses, drops down and scores with a double-leg of his own.
