Nicco Montano finished off her improbable run to glory, winning the inaugural UFC female flyweight title over Roxanne Modafferi Friday night at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale.
The event took place from the Park Theater just outside Las Vegas, airing live on FOX Sports 1.
Montano worked her way through TUF, including a decision over Barb Honchak in the semifinals to secure her spot in the finals. She swept the scorecards, including a 50-45 on one of them.
Late in the fight, Modafferi attempted an armbar, but Montano was able to avoid the submission.
Modafferi was tabbed as a replacement for Sijara Eubanks after Eubanks became ill from a failed weight-cut. Eubanks, who earned a decision over Modafferi in the semifinals of TUF, was deemed medically unfit to compete on Thursday.
Sean O’Malley secured a decision victory over Terrion Ware in the co-main event. O’Malley earned himself a shot in the UFC with his performance earlier this year on Dana White’s “Contender Series.”
Lauren Murphy took advantage of the opportunity presented to her, defeating Honchak via split decision. Murphy stepped into the bout after Modaferri was switched to the championship fight.
Gerald Meerschaert finished Eric Spicely and Brett Johns locked in a calf-slicer in the first 30 seconds to submit Joe Soto.
Montana De La Rosa defeated Christian Marks in another flyweight fight, with Ryan Janes finishing off Andrew Sanchez. Rachael Ostovich submitted Karine Gevorgyan and Shana Dobson stopped Ariel Beck.
Gillian Robertson kicked off the night with a first round submission via armbar over Emily Whitmire.
