Mike King, who was a competitor on Season 19 of The Ultimate Fighter, failed his post-fight drug test from a bout at UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Brandao last month.
King lost to Cathal Pendred in Ireland and will be suspended for nine months from the July 19 event. He will also lose his $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus earned with Pendred, and must pass a drug test upon competing again.
The UFC released a statement, as they served as the acting commission due to the show taking place overseas:
UFC middleweight Mike King tested positive for nandrolone following his bout against Cathal Pendred at UFC Fight Night Dublin: McGregor vs. Brandao on July 19, 2014. He was informed that his positive test violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC.
The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes.
He agreed to serve a 9-month suspension retroactive to the event and must pass a drug test before receiving clearance to compete again.
He will forfeit his $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus.
Pendred heard about the news and posted on Twitter that he has a “zero tolerance for PEDs in sport. However, I know Mike King well from the 6 weeks on TUF & he is a good guy. I wish him well.” He also added a funny post in response to the news:
