Not a season of TUF has gone by without at least one fighter breaking down into tears over the difficulty of being away from girlfriends, wives, children, and other family members. Truly, there aren’t a lot of more uncomfortable things to watch than hardened athletes who make a living in the cage go from brawler to baby in a 30-second span. However, their struggle is understandable to anyone who can empathize with a person being completely removed from contact with the people who they love.
The Ultimate Fighter has been an incredible looking glass for fans to use as a portal into what it takes to be a high-level Mixed Martial Artist. Though the reality franchise has featured plenty of over-the-top characters and generally embarrassing moments, it has also revealed the majority of fighters to be real people viewers can relate to rather than bloodthirsty thugs. For that reason, there’s occasionally an emotional reaction when contestants go down or deal with adversity due to the truly tear-jerking moments the show often provides.
