Tony Ferguson believes 2016 will be the year he claims UFC gold.
Ferguson defeated Edson Barboza Friday night, locking up a D’arce choke in the second round at The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale.
The win was the seventh consecutive for Ferguson (20-3), who has defeated the likes of Josh Thomson, Gleison Tibau, Abel Trujillo and Danny Castillo during his run. He is also 10-1 overall in his UFC career.
“Give me my title shot and I’ll take it,” Ferguson said.
Of those past six wins, four have been via submission, including a pair of D’arce chokes. He also locked up the hold on Mike Rio in 2013.
“Of course I had him deep and I knew I had it,” he said of the choke. “That’s what I do.”
