Tito Ortiz, a former UFC champion and member of the hall of fame, should make a full recovery from his fractured neck, according to his doctor.
Ortiz posted a message from William Smith, the man charged with examining his neck, on Twitter recently. He was scheduled to face Quinton “Rampage” Jackson this weekend at Bellator 106.
“CT scan showed a right C6 pillar fracture. By going through a high impact fight as he is scheduled for would put him at high risk for a spinal cord injury. It does appear that he is going to go onto full and complete healing 6-8 weeks.”
Ortiz, who has battled neck and back injuries over the latter stages of his career, added that the injury was “a freak accident” and the first broken bone he has suffered.
“I train hard,” he wrote. “That’s it. No quit in me not in my character.”
