The ladies of the UFC’s newest division shined bright at The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale.
Carla Esparza became the first-ever strawweight champion in the promotion, turning back the efforts of Rose Namajunas. Seven others from the Season 20 show earned wins, including a pair of submissions by Felice Herrig and Aisling Daly.
As more and more fighters are brought in to comprise the 115-pound division, Esparza’s reign will be tested. But, for now, let’s look back at the three stars of the night:
Despite being the Invicta FC 115-pound champion before signing with the UFC, Esparza was the underdog vs. Namajunas.
Wrong decision there, Vegas.
Esparza used her wrestling and experience to overcome Namajunas and win for the 10th time. She’s on quite the roll, having not lost since 2011. In that time, she’s bested Bec Rawlings and Felice Herrig.
It would be tough to exclude Namajunas in this post, as the youngster had quite the run on TUF. She was a lower-seed, but finished her way through to the finals. The time will come for “Thug,” the girlfriend of former UFC heavyweight Pat Barry.
