Bellator MMA and the World Series of Fighting didn’t back down from the UFC this past weekend, going head-to-head with the MMA leader.
At Bellator 131, a pair of former UFC fighters took the stage, but it was a rising star that claimed top honors. WSOF 15 also featured a couple of ex-UFC standouts, but another youngster once again rose to the top.
Here’s a look at three stars from the two shows:
Earlier this year, Will Brooks earned the interim Bellator lightweight title when he stepped in on short notice and defeated former champion Michael Chandler via split decision. This past weekend, it appeared the two were headed to the scorecards once again before “Ill Will” halted things.
In the fourth round, Brooks caught Chandler with a hard right hand on his way up from the canvas. Chandler seemed fine at first, but quickly started to look puzzled and unsure of where he was. With the ref allowing the action to continue, Brooks unloaded, becoming the first man to stop him inside the cage.
Bellator has a handful of worthy contenders ready to challenge Brooks, and you can bet Chandler wants another shot at him as well.
