Thiago Silva was once on the cusp of competing for the UFC light heavyweight title.
Since that time, Silva has battled losses, injuries and suspensions due to failed drug tests.
Wednesday night, Silva earned his seventh UFC victory by defeating Matt Hamill – but it came a price.
After missing weight, Silva was called out by UFC president Dana White, who posted a picture of “Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream” along with the comment “Thiago Silva is on the Dana White diet and workout plan” on Twitter.
Silva admitted he was out of shape during the post-fight press conference, saying “I think it was a bad fight. I disappointed the UFC, but I’ll make up for it.
“I had many chances to knock him out, but I gassed. It was a bad fight.”
Silva (16-3) weighed in two pounds over the 206-pound limit, and didn’t look like his normal chiseled self in the fight.
