Despite missing weight and falling to Jim Miller on the prelims of UFC 205, veteran Thiago Alves was able to enjoy the chance to fight at Madison Square Garden.
“I’m very disappointed that I didn’t get the win,” Alves said. “I know that Jim Miller is a game opponent and that he would be a tough test for me. He did everything he was supposed to and it was really me who did not get things done.”
The former welterweight title challenger was hoping to make a splash at 155 pounds. Instead, he missed weight on Friday and never got on track vs. Miller. The loss was the second straight for Alves and dropped him to 21-11 overall.
He had won two straight before falling to Miller and former interim UFC champion Carlos Condit last year. Alves has fought just four times since 2012 due to injuries.
“It felt great to step into Madison Square Garden,” he said. “It’s a big venue. It’s a legendary venue.”
