Thiago Alves continued to fight through a broken nose suffered in round two vs. Carlos Condit Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 67.
However, the doctor at Octagon-side wouldn’t let it go any further, stopping the main event contest.
Alves suffered the injury after an elbow landed by Condit early in the round. Blood immediately began pouring, but the Brazilian and former No. 1 contender didn’t let up. He fought back, and fought through several submission attempts by Condit.
“I felt I could keep fighting,” he said. “But congrats to Condit, he did a good job.
“You have to respect the doctor.”
Alves (21-10) had his two-fight win streak snapped and fell to 4-3 in his last seven overall. The TKO loss marked the first for him since a 2006 stoppage defeat at the hands of Jon Fitch.
