T.J. Dillashaw’s Main Goal Is A “Champion Vs. Champion” Fight

UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw will take on Renan Barao this July at UFC on FOX 16, but for the Team Alpha Male fighter, the next goal is already on his mind.

Dillashaw recently told Submission Radio that he feels a match up with the UFC featherweight champion is in the cards.

“I would love to do a champion vs. champion fight,” he said. “That’s my next goal. The goal was to become the best in the world in my weight class and I’ve done it. I need to obviously stay dominant and hold my belt and continue to do so, but I would love in the future to fight champion vs. champion, go up a weight class and do that.

“That’s my main goal now.”

While taking on a fellow UFC titleholder is at the top, the current is Barao. The Brazilian and former champion recently had some hard words regarding Dillashaw, referring to him as a “joker.”

“If I’m not a champion, then he just got dominated by someone that he doesn’t think is a champion,” Dillashaw said. “That’s kind of funny to me. I think he’s just trying to stay relevant, act like he’s got a shot in this fight.”

After besting Barao once already, Dillashaw believes the finish will come before the “championship rounds” when the two meet in Chicago.

“Finishing him in the third,” he said. “I’m going to finish him. Probably TKO once again.”
