T.J. Dillashaw Anxious To Test Skills Vs. Dominick Cruz

Dominick Cruz was the first fighter to wear the UFC bantamweight title.

Current champion T.J. Dillashaw wants to defend his 135-pound title against Cruz – assuming “The Dominator” can stay healthy.

Cruz was stripped of the title after suffering back-to-back knee injuries. He is currently sidelined once again, but is anticipating a return either late in 2015 or early in 2016.

Dillashaw scored his second title defense with a fourth round TKO victory over Renan Barao at UFC on FOX 16 over the weekend. He won the belt by stopping Barao last year and defended it vs. Joe Soto.

“If he stays healthy (I want to face Cruz),” said Dillashaw, during the post-fight show after his recent win. “I don’t know if he can. Come on Dominick, let’s get after it.

“He used to be the champ.”

The Team Alpha Male fighter used an incredible offensive attack to best Barao, peppering him with shots. He ended the bout with a flurry early in the fourth.

“Our plan was don’t try to out-perform yourself,” he said. “We worked on some things that needed to be tightened up. We wanted to be fast and first.”

While Barao started to fatigue from the back-and-forth stand-up affair, Dillashaw never did.

“My cardio is awesome,” he said. “I have confidence being the champion. You go in there with the idea you can’t lose and you believe in yourself.”

Having dispatched Barao twice now, Dillashaw said “peace out. I don’t have to deal with him for a while.”
