Louis Smolka came all the way to Ireland from Hawaii to face Irish fighter Paddy Holohan Saturday at UFC Fight Night 76.
By the end of the day, Smolka had earned his first main event victory and put himself on the right path to climbing the rankings with a second round submission win.
“Surreal,” said Smolka of the fight. “Honestly, Ireland you may hate me right now, but I love you.”
Smolka controlled the action for the most part, using his effective wrestling and striking skills to keep Holohan at bay. In the second after a nice scramble, the 24-year-old locked up the rear-naked choke and earned his third consecutive victory.
Outside of a 2014 split decision loss to Chris Cariaso, Smolka is unbeaten in his career, posting 10 wins overall. He’s now bested Holohan, Neil Seery and Richie Vaculik since the loss to Cariaso and is 4-1 with the UFC.
