Stipe Miocic Loved The Cleveland Crowd, But Not Fan Of Home Fights

Don’t get Stipe Miocic confused.

The Ohio native loved the response the Quicken Loans Arena crowd provided him Saturday night at UFC 203 as he scored a victory over Alistair Overeem and defended his heavyweight title.

But moving forward, Miocic prefers to fight away from the area.

“I’d rather go fight in Brazil again,” he said during the post-fight show on FS1. “I got hit up by a ton of people for tickets, and have been asked about after parties. I hate to travel but I love going away and doing my thing.”

Miocic kept his title with a first round finish of Overeem, surviving an early onslaught and a guillotine choke attempt. After the fight, Overeem stated that he believed Miocic had tapped, but replays did not show that.

“I wasn’t even close to tapping out. He let go,” he said. “I don’t understand how he even thinks that.”

Many believed that Overeem would have his way with Miocic, who stunned Fabricio Werdum earlier this year in Brazil and won the title. But Miocic did exactly what he said he would and plans to continue doing the same.

“I’ll keep winning. I keep becoming ‘And Still,’” Miocic said. I told myself I’ll win the title and keep it a long time.”
