Stipe Miocic put forth a complete and utterly dominating performance against Mark Hunt Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 65 in a battle of Top-5 heavyweights.
Known for his cardio, Miocic did anything and everything he wanted vs. Hunt, taking him down several times and nearly stopping the fight on a number of occasions.
The win got Miocic (13-2) back on track following a loss to former champion Junior dos Santos last year. He’s now earned victories over Hunt, Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga during his UFC run.
“He told me he was gonna knock me out, so I had to take him out of his own game,” Miocic said. “I just want to soak it all in.”
Miocic landed almost 400 total strikes in the fight, including 255 significant ones at a 77-percent clip. He also scored on 6 of 9 takedown attempts and allowed Hunt to connect on just 64 total strikes over four-plus rounds.
Hunt suffered his second straight loss after losing to Fabricio Werdum last year for the interim UFC heavyweight title. He is now 10-10-1 in his career.
