Stefan Struve earned his third win in four fights, finishing Daniel Omielanczuk Saturday night at UFC 204.
Struve, who missed several months due to a heart issue, improved his overall record to 28-8 with the win. Since a pair of losses to Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt, he has topped Omielanczuk, Antonio Silva and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira around a decision loss to Jared Rosholt.
“I knew that if it went to the ground,” Struve said. “I would be able to get the submission.”
Struve was riding high back in 2012 when he defeated current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, but a loss to Hunt that resulted in a broken jaw left in him sidelined for an extended period. Medical officials found that he had a leaking aortic valve and the fighter missed time.
For Omeilanczuk, the loss was his first since a 2015 defeat to Anthony Hamilton. He is now 3-1 over his last four and 19-6-1 overall.
