Soa Palelei strained his rib a week before yesterday’s UFC 164, but wasn’t pulling out of the fight since he already committed to a full training camp. After taking a shot to the stomach in round one, Palelei was visibly tired and points to the injury being aggravated.
“He hit me with a knee to the rib and I think it cracked,” said Palelei to MMA Fighting. “It slowed me down, but I was happy to get the win and keep going to give a better performance.”
The blow Palelei is referencing came in round one against Nikita Krylov though he was able to finish the fight in the third round.
Palelei was returning to the UFC, having fought only once for them in 2007. He earned his first UFC win and keeps his winning streak alive with number nine. At 19-3, Palelei would love to return on the Australia card in December as it’s his home country.
Krylov is 15-3 in what was his UFC debut. He’s a regular at Gladiators Fighting Championship and Oplot Challenge shows.
They fought on the online prelims at UFC 164, which was August 31 from the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, WI. For complete play-by-play of the card, click here.
